Why Order?

Do you know why the operations in an expression always have to be evaluated in a certain order?

What is the order of operations?

The order of operations is a set of rules that tells us the correct order to solve math expressions with more than one operation.

You might have learned about PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction) or BODMAS (Brackets, Orders, Division and Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction). Both describe the same idea: work inside grouping symbols first, handle exponents next, and then move left to right through multiplication/division and addition/subtraction.
